Combining bright, striped upholstery fabric with a black lacquered frame and swirling arm details, Urban gave the classic armchair form a modern spin. This reproduction is based on archival images of the original Wormser armchair and related sketches found in Urban’s papers. In correspondence with Leo Wormser about the commission, Urban originally proposed that the chair be covered in embroidery. Ultimately it was covered in the same vibrant upholstery used for the desk and dressing table chairs and chaise. Urban likely designed the striped fabric. A reproduction is used here, similar in pattern to the material he created for the Ruxton automobile interior in 1929.
